April 13, 2016

Genome Canada is a not-for-profit organization that aims to harness the transformative power of genomics for the benefit of all Canadians. We connect ideas and people across public and private sectors to find new uses for genomics, invest in large-scale science and technology to fuel innovation, and translate discoveries into solutions across key sectors of national importance, including health, agriculture, forestry, fisheries & aquaculture, energy, mining, and the environment. For more information on Genome Canada and the six regional Genome Centres, visit www.genomecanada.ca

Genome Canada and the Genome Centres focus a significant amount of effort to build and improve ways of translating discoveries into applications that lead to economic and social benefits as quickly as possible. One of Genome Canada’s flagship programs is the Genomic Applications Partnership Program, which helps bridge the gap between academia and users of genomics and plays a major role in nurturing the public/private interface, thereby transforming the results of research into useful applications with maximum benefit.

As Director, Genomic Applications Programs, you are responsible for actively managing Genome Canada’s genomic applications programs and a portfolio of projects such that they have the highest likelihood of success and impact. You provide authoritative advice on how genomics discoveries can be translated into applications that lead to economic wealth and social benefit. You develop and implement investment strategies, program guidelines, application and review procedures, and post-award monitoring and management. You build awareness of and promote your programs. With a focus on partnership and collaboration, you establish and maintain dynamic and productive relationships with Genome Centres, users in the private, public and other sectors, Canadian scientists, funding agencies and other external stakeholders.

As the ideal candidate, you have a graduate-level research-based degree, a thorough knowledge of genomics, and at least ten years of relevant work experience including at least five years as a business development professional with a track record of building value in life science based projects in the public or private sectors.  You possess the strong interpersonal skills necessary to build durable partnerships and networks. You are skilled in communications, facilitation, operational planning, and performance excellence.  You are comfortable leading and being part of high performance teams. The ability to communicate fluently in both English and French is preferred.

This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned business development professional to put his or her mark on how applications in the fast paced genomics arena can be accelerated to maximize the potential of this transformative science.

The position is based in Ottawa, Canada’s vibrant national capital with a rich diversity of cultural and recreational activities.
