Dr. Peter Phillips Appointed Board Chair

Dr. Peter W.B. Phillips

Genome Prairie is pleased to announce today the appointment of Dr. Peter W.B. Phillips as Chair of its Board of Directors. The appointment as Chair is for a three-year term, open to renewal in 2025.

Dr. Phillips possesses an exceptionally distinguished career as an academic, researcher, and writer. He earned his doctorate at the London School of Economics and Political Science and has spent much of his academic career at the University of Saskatchewan. Peter was a founding director of the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (JSGC), held an NSERC-SSHRC Chair in Managing Technological Change in Agriculture, and was director of the Virtual College of Biotechnology.

Peter has also held appointments at the LSE, OECD, European University Institute in Florence, Italy, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Western Australia. He was also a founding member of the Canadian Biotechnology Advisory Committee and served on the Boards of the Canadian Agri-food Policy Institute, Pharmalytics, and Ag-West Bio Inc.

In addition to his academic and research accomplishments, Dr. Phillips has held more than 15 peer-reviewed grants worth more than $250 million and is widely published as the author or editor of 15 books and author of more than 55 book chapters as well as more than 100 journal articles.

Peter currently serves as Distinguished Professor and Graduate Chair at the JSGS, as Director for the Centre for the Study of Science and Innovation Policy, and as Associate Member, Department of Bioresource, Policy, Business and Economics at the College of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. He is also an Associate Member of the Department of Economics at the U of S.

Dr. Phillips assumes the Chair from Bill Johnson, who will remain on the Genome Prairie Board. Genome Prairie would like to thank Mr. Johnson for his astute and diligent guidance to the Board over the past three years.
